We could all use a little extra storage space. However, due to budget and space limitations, many of us don’t really think it’s possible for our situation. But there are various options that you should take into consideration before just giving up. There are storage units, traditional construction, and even an enclosed carport.
But before you search for any of those things, you really need to clear out your current junk. This will free up so much space you though you didn’t have. So anything that hasn’t been used in the last six months, throw it out. More than likely you will never use it again. Of course, things like photo albums and insurance policies should not be thrown out with all of the old clothes and shoes.
Now it’s time to determine your budget. Really sit down and figure out how much money you can realistically spend. If you only have a couple of hundred of bucks, but make consistent income, a storage unit could be right for you. Or, if you want to add more value to your home and plan on staying there for a while, traditional storage construction like an attached garage would work better for you.
Carports are really simple to put together. Everything comes in convenient diy carport kits; all the tools, parts, and instruction manual. With a storage unit, you don’t even have to worry about putting anything together. Just throw your stuff in it, and call it day. For traditional construction, you’re going to need a contractor to put it together for you. This is unsettling for many people because they are giving up control of the project and have to rely on someone else. And lets be honest, contractors don’t really have the reputation for finishing projects on time and to the clients specifications.
Carports come in a wide variety of styles for you to choose from. And they’re readily available online and most hardware stores. Storage units are pretty accessible, but you need to make sure that it is in a relatively good neighborhood. The last thing you want is to show up and all of your stuff is gone. The best thing about traditional construction is that you can have your storage building constructed to your exact specifications. The only thing is that you need to make sure that they can actually do the job.
So it really comes down to your specific needs. If you see yourself traveling a lot and don’t have a whole lot of space, a storage unit would probably work best for you. Really take the time to assess your needs before making a big commitment.
